As a Hatha Yoga and meditation teacher, I’m deeply aware of what we invite into our space—what we breathe in, what we absorb, and how it affects our body, mind, and energy. Candles are a beautiful part of many people’s routines, especially for creating calm, sacred space. But not all candles are created equal.
Over the years, I’ve learned that what’s in a candle matters just as much as the mood it sets. That’s why I made the switch to soy wax and essential oil candles—and why I encourage my community to do the same.

🕯 What’s Wrong With Paraffin Wax?
Paraffin is the most common wax used in conventional candles, but it’s actually a byproduct of petroleum. When burned, it can release toxins like toluene and benzene—the same chemicals found in diesel fuel exhaust. That black soot you sometimes see on the jar or wall? You’re breathing that in, too.
Not exactly what we want during a restorative yoga session or quiet meditation.
🌱 Why I Use Soy Wax Candles
Soy wax comes from soybeans—a natural, renewable, and biodegradable source. It burns cleaner and slower, with little to no soot, meaning:
- Less air pollution in your home
- No toxins clouding your lungs or aura
- A longer-lasting candle (more burn for your buck!)
It’s a small shift with big impact.
🌸 Scented with Pure Essential Oils
I only use or recommend candles scented with pure essential oils, never synthetic fragrance. Essential oils offer more than just a pleasant smell—they support your nervous system and invite healing:
- Lavender calms the mind and prepares the body for sleep
- Peppermint clears mental fog and tension
- Eucalyptus opens the breath and uplifts your energy
The difference is more than sensory—it’s spiritual.
