Three Yoga Poses for Beginners

Let’s break down my favorite three yoga poses for absolute beginners! These foundational 3 will help you begin, deepen, and expand your practice, as once you begin to understand these three poses, yoga becomes much less of a mystery and more of a full mind-body-breath experience, and that’s what we’re going for here, friends.

Without further ado, let’s begin!

1.) Downward Facing Dog- This is a foundational or pillar pose in yoga, as we use it a TON in grounding ourselves, vinyasa transitions, and is overall one of the most body beneficial poses you can do. It helps relieve lower back pain, can cure sciatic nerve pain (commonly called sciatica), strengthens the shoulders, improves shoulder flexibility/mobility, lengthens the spine, lowers blood pressure, improves blood circulation, improves lymphatic fluid circulation, and is overall a powerhouse of a yoga pose all in one!

2.) Warrior I- This pillar yoga pose is a closed-hip pose, meaning we keep our hips aligned with the front (short side) of our mat. It strengthens the glutes and hips, targets the quads and knee joints, increases joint stability, and is great for the heart. This yoga pose, or asana, encourages us to evoke the inner warrior within, ground into our strength, and stand in our Truth.

3.) Warrior II- Finally, the last yoga pose/asana I would like to highlight is Warrior II. This is an open-hip pose, meaning we are opening/aligning our hips to the long side of our mat (length wise). This yoga pose is amazing for the pelvic floor muscles, as it both opens and strengthens the pelvis, strengthens the glutes and shoulders, and is overall an incredibly powerful pose as it leaves you feeling open, strong, alert, and sharp. Can you tell this one is a favorite of mine?

I hope these three yoga poses help you to start your yoga journey, as they’re the same ones that started me on my path. If you’d like to know more, check out this short video that I made for these 3 poses specifically! I hope you enjoy and find this insightful. One love, my dear!
